Mission Statement
Yorktown Love In Action is a non-profit organization, providing services to people in our community. We're here to lend a helping hand, to those who have fallen on difficult times.
We have not forgotten about our neighbors, our friends, our family...OUR COMMUNITY.
What We Do
Assist people in our community, who have fallen on difficult times; whether due to an accident, sickness, injury, death in the family, abuse, separation, fire, acts of nature or anything else beyond their control.
Who We Help
We call them our 'Families' and our "Friends'. Our "Families" enter into a commitment with YLIA, for a specified period of time. YLIA agrees to help them with predetermined material & monetary assistance. Our 'Friends' are those who require assistance with material items, emotional support and possibly life coaching.
How We Help Them
We accept material donations of clothing, footwear, baby items, toys, furniture, household goods, appliances, automobiles, etc. First, we help our 'Families' with their material needs, then our 'Friends'. We then sell the donated items at our thrift store and take the proceeds to help pay for our 'Families' medical, utility, insurance bills and mortgages directly. We do not give cash money to our 'Families' or 'Friends'. We also sell New Wigs and Yoga Sandals, to help with other physical and emotional ailments.
How We Pay Overhead
We accept monetary donations, whether as a one-time contributor or as a monthly supporting sponsor.
How Our 'Families' and 'Friends' help YLIA
They participate in YLIA fundraisers, work at our community thrift store and help others who are in need.
What's the result
Overall it's a win-win situation. Our 'Families' & 'Friends' regain their independence & self respect. Our neighbors pull together to make their community a better place to live. There will be fewer foreclosures, fewer jobless & less homeless.
